Siemens Energy to Supply Turbines to German Wind Farm

Siemens Energy has secured a contract from WindMW to supply 80 wind turbines to be installed at the 288 MW Meerwind Sud and Meerwind Ost wind project in Bremerhaven, Germany.

The company secured the contract from WindMW, majority owned by funds managed by Blackstone and Windland Energieerzeugungs, which will construct and operate the wind farm.

Under the contract, Siemens will supply, install and commission the wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW and a rotor diameter of 120 m each at the wind farm.

The turbines will be will be installed over an area of 42 kmĀ² and at 22 to 26 m deep at the farm, which will generate power sufficient for 400,000 homes.

The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2013.
